They’re all charged up!

An estimated 20,000 spectators will flood Red Hook this weekend to watch drivers from around the world zip around the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal as part of electric-car racing series Formula E’s first race in New York City.

The festivities kicked-off yesterday with a ribbon cutting at the racetrack, and our photographer got a sneak peek of the winding course as teams’ unpacked their sleek, glycerine-guzzling vehicles in preparation for the July 15 and 16 competition.

The battery-powered speedsters, which travel at speeds up to 140-miles-per hour, will zoom around a 1.21-mile course that overlooks New York Harbor and the distant isle of Manhattan. Past legs of the series have hit the streets of such exotic locales as Buenos Aires, Hong Kong, and Paris.
